Abstract : A rapid-scanning IR spectrometer, capable of 20,000 scans per second, was designed and constructed. This instrument was coupled to a multiple-pass flash-photolysis cell, and experiments were performed to observe the spectrum of transient species produced by photolysis. Instrumentation was also developed to measure kinetics of reactions involving transient species. The IR spectrum of CF3 free radical was observed following photolysis of CF3I, but the spectrum intensity was too low for an accurate measurement of the decay kinetics of CF3. Photolysis of O3-C2N2 mixtures led to the tentative identification of the species NCOCN and C2N2O, the former formed by an insertion reaction of singlet oxygen atoms, and the latter by addition of oxygen atoms in the triplet state. The work is briefly reviewed and a list of the resulting publications is given. (Author)
