Abstract : Six commercial boron nitride powders were consolidated by hot isostatic compaction (HIC) into cylindrical test samples. Three conditions were employed for consolidation: 3000 F, 30,000 psi; 3600 F, 14,000 psi; and 4500 F, 15,000 psi. BN sample densities ranged up to 97.4 percent of theoretical. Maximum tensile strength (measured by diametral compression) reached 2700 psi. D-c electrical resistivity exhibits values in the 10 to the 14th power ohm/cm range and dielectric strength varied between 700 and 1200 volts/mil. Samples are now in preparation to obtain a-c electrical properties. (Author)
