Abstract : During study of the role played by birds in arbovirus distribution within endemic foci of these infections, simultaneous investigation of different ecological groups of vertebrate animals are important. Serological survey permits determination of the state of the foci and elucidation of their epizootiological valence. Owing to the great importance of hoofed mammals (ungulata) as hosts of ixodid ticks and bloodsucking Diptera vectors of transmissible natural diseases, we examined the blood of elk for presence of antibodies to tick-borne encephalitis (TE) and Omsk hemorrhagic fever (OHF) viruses. Blood was examined for antibodies to TE virus by the hemagglutination inhibition (HI) test. Of 33 examined animals, 12 had antibodies to TE and 8 to OHF. Positive results for both antigens were recorded in 7 elk. The presence of antibodies to TE and OHF in these elk may prove the interassociation of TE and OHF natural foci.
