Abstract : A heat sink type of propane boiler system mounted in a representative spacecraft structure has been tested under simulated spacecraft conditions to obtain information about the heat transfer behaviour during continuous operation at various environmental temperatures. The influence of the method of mounting the system in the spacecraft structure upon the performance of the system is discussed and estimates of performance are presented. It has been shown that, provided the system is not completely thermally isolated from the spacecraft, the boiler system will meet the demands of a typical propane attitude control system. Also, it has been demonstrated that it is possible to operate the system continuously at the designed maximum mass flow rate of 0.33 gm/sec. (Author)
