Abstract : The equations governing the geometrical approximation for nonlinear wave propagation that were derived in a previous paper of this series are used here to construct a special solution that describes diffraction at an edge. The effect described is a purely nonlinear one, having nothing whatever to do with physical optics or physical acoustics - it disappears in the limit where the energy of the local wave approaches zero. Consequently, it can be a dominant effect only when the energy is relatively high, as perhaps in a laser beam. (Author)
