Abstract : Ionic sampling studies have been performed on cesium plasmas using dc as well as rf excitation. For dc discharges sampling was undertaken through both the anode and cathode. Measurements have been made for normalized pressures from 0.0001 to 0.1 Torr. The major ions observed were cs(+), Cs2(+) and Cs3(+). For a fixed cesium pressure, I(Cs2(+)/I(Cs(+)) and I(Cs3(+))/(Cs(+)) in general, decreased with increasing values of the total ion signal. At low pressure about 0.0001 Torr Cs(+) was dominant, however about 0.1 Torr the ion signals of Cs2(+) were comparable to those of Cs(+). The ion current signals of Cs3(+), increase rapidly with cesium pressure. (Author)
