Abstract : The comparative study of five methods of isolation of methane oxidizing bacteria has shown that the best results are received when the bacteria are isolated in the agar and semiliquid environments of Bushnell-Haas and also on the agar gel plates, impregnated with the same environment. Out of 86 soil samples, ooze and water samples approximately 100 pure cultured microorganisms were isolated, many of which were identical. The overwhelming majority of pure cultures isolated belong to the Myco-bacterium type; a considerably lesser number of cultures were of the Pseudomonas Bacillus and Actinomyces types. (Author)
