Abstract : There has been considerable interest recently in the effect of the magnetic interactions among the conduction electrons on diamagnetism in metals. The magnetization density wave (MDW) state was first suggested by the study of the wave-number dependent susceptibility. The MDW state has been studied by Azbel and by the present authors (1969). The purpose of this paper is to present a more detailed discussion of the ideas introduced in the previous paper by the present authors (1969) and to investigate the boundary conditions more carefully. The entire calculation is in the spirit of mean field theory (also referred to as molecular field theory).
