Abstract : A review of the literature indicates that the large temperature variations in the triplet state lifetime of aromatic hydrocarbons in fluid solvents is almost entirely due to the diffusion of adventitious impurity quenchers. Experiments with polymer matrices, which inhibit diffusion over a wide temperature range, indicate a small but finite temperature variation in the triplet state lifetimes. Considerably greater temperature effects are observed for other types of molecules. (Author)
