Abstract : The promises of fibers and products based on them that are capable of local sedative and anti-inflammation action, and also which possess an inherent capability to cause or prevent coagulation of the blood are examined. Polyvinyl alcohol fibers are treated with various medicinal preparations for the purpose of determining their biological activity. The effect of anesthetizing fibers containing novocain is checked on rabbits and the reaction of the animals to external stimulus at the points of application of the test and control samples is used as the criterion of success. The introduction of a halide atom to the fiber makes it possible to combine with the polymer various medical substances such as white streptocide, norsulfazole and other sulfanylamides and nitrous compounds.
