Abstract : The sensitization of biacetyl fluorescence in aerated cyclohexane solutions was studied at 25C, using naphthalene, benzene and acetone as donors. The simultaneous quenching of donor fluorescence by biacetyl was also investigated and it is concluded that the energy transfer process involves the lowest excited singlet states of donor and acceptor in each case, and proceeds at a rate consistent with a diffusion-controlled process.
