Abstract : The monograph reviews the state of knowledge in the field of borohydride chemistry through the end of 1965. The section dealing with the physical properties, preparative methods, and chemical transformations of diborane occupies a central spot. Several chapters give a systematic out line of preparative methods and properties of nitrogen, phosphorus, oxygen, sulfur, halogen, and other derivatives of diborane, as well as of metal boron hydrides and cationic complexes of boron. A special section is devoted to the chemistry of organic derivatives of diborane of the acyclic, alicyclic, and aromatic series. Hydroborination reactions are considered which have found wide spread use in the synthesis of organoboron compounds and are employed as a synthesis method in organic chemistry. The book deals with problems of structure, synthesis, and reactivity of the higher borohydrides comprising three to twenty boron atoms in the molecule, higher borohydride ions, and carboranes. This review of borohydride chemistry (3500 copies printed) is based on 2531 references (Soviet and non Soviet) published through the end of 1965. (Author)
