Abstract : From proton nuclear magnetic resonance taken at both 220MHz and 100 MHz the resonance of the anomalous hydrogen in pentaborane(11) is assigned. The low field position of this resonance is perhaps indicative of some degree of protonic character thus allow for greater delocalization of the framework electrons. Coupling of this hydrogen to the apex boron is stronger than to the basal borons which is consistent with the X-ray data that this hydrogen is significantly closer to the apex than to the base.
