Abstract : Meteorological data were collected over an 18 month period for the coastal region from Morro Bay to Point Conception in California. These data, along with data from the Weather Bureau and other sources, have been utilized in defining the climatic patterns of the study area and attempting to explain the variations observed. Although the detailed data covers a limited period of time, seasonal and diurnal variations have been observed. Climatic modification by a headland was observed during periods when a low level inversion existed and the wind flow was onshore from the cold ocean. Surface observations of wind and temperature and aircraft observations of the temperature variations indicate that colder air can be expected in the convergent zone upwind of the headland with warmer air, probably a result of subsidence, in the area of divergence downwind.
