Abstract : The possibility of determining the vertical distribution of water vapor in a cloudless atmosphere from measurements of the microwave radiation of the earth-atmosphere system at two or more wavelengths is pointed out. Values of the correlation coefficients between the water-content of various layers of the atmosphere and the radio-brightness temperatures at various wavelengths are given, together with the regression equation relating these quantities. Data are given for checking the regression equation with independent data. (Author)
