Abstract : CHAIN 92 was originally intended as a single-leg cruise, but problems with radio beacons necessitated a return to Woods Hole on June 9th and return to Site D1 on June 10th. Nine moorings were set (two of which were short-term and were retrieved before the end of the cruise) and one previously-established six-month mooring was retrieved. These moorings were to perform a variety of functions including instrumentation and mooring-line materials evaluation as well as collection of scientific data. Other work included hydrostations, XBT's, current-profile measurements in conjunction with the hydrostations, and radar-transponder tests. (Author)
