Abstract : New information on the recently characterized 'white' allotropic form of carbon is reported. White carbon was produced in high-temperature, low-pressure experiments on graphite sublimation and was characterized by its crystallographic interplaner spacings. Under free vaporization conditions above about 2550K, the white carbon forms as small transparent crystals on the edges of the basal planes of graphite. (Author)
