Abstract : A new Mossbauer-spectrometer for transmission studies using the 46,5 keV transition in W-183 was designed and constructed. The lay-out of the system aimed at precision measurements of the Mossbauer-effect in the sample as a function of sample temperature up to 500C. Using waterfree Li2WO4 a series of measurements was carried out between 77K and 500K. The exponential decrease of the Mossbauer effect with temperature could be well fitted by a straight line corresponding to a Debye-temperature of 173K. In preparation of a similar study of Fe-57 in In a first macroscopic determination of the diffusion constant for Fe in In was carried out using Fe-59 as tracer. Close to the melting point of In a value of D of the order of 10 to the -9the sq cm/s was obtained. An apparatus for small angle Rayleigh scattering of recoilless emitted quanta in liquids as a function of temperature was designed and partially tested. Searching for an extremely wide Mossbauer transition for test purposes the Mossbauer effect of the 125,3 keV transition in Re-185 was first observed. (Author)
