Abstract : For the case of friction of two infinite steel-polymer plates the condition of formation of a melt as a result of the heat of friction was derived. The thermohydrodynamic problem about motion of the polymer melt over the metal was solved taking into account phase transition, non-Newtonian character of viscosity and dependence of viscosity on temperature. Distribution of temperatures and speeds in the liquid film of the melt were determined, and also the dependence of frictional force and thicknesses of film on speed. Thickness of film sharply increases, and frictional force drops, which is in qualitative agreement with experiment. (Author)
