Abstract : Topics discussed involve (1) measurements of the cleavage surface energy's of (100) MgO and (100) KCl, (2) studies of the characteristics and mechanism of the complex-ion embrittlement of AgCl, (3) studies of the nature and mechanism of Rebinder-type effects in ionic crystals such as MgO and CaF2, (4) an investigation of the influence and mechanism of Rebinder effects in the drilling of ceramics, (5) preliminary results from a study of the adsorption-sensitive fracture and drilling behavior of a soda-lime glass.
