Abstract : In 1965-66, certain types of occupational accidents occurred more frequently in some States than in others. It seems likely that some factors which differ between the States (other than differences in industry character and distribution) had a strong influence on injury rates. It seems reasonable to suggest that these other factors may relate to the level of industrial development or to the political and social activities of the States (by way of legislation, legislative enforcement and safety officer training, for example) or to differences in the levels of compensation payable.
