Abstract : The nature of uniform random sequences and their applications are reviewed. Techniques for simulating these sequences are surveyed and instructions for programming decimal congruential generators are given. The essential properties required of pseudo-random sequences are considered in detail. Particular attention is devoted to efficient statistical tests of these properties. Numerous recommendations are made relative to testing generators for nuclear Monte Carlo programs on decimal computers. (Author)
