Abstract : Rats were exposed for 1 minute to tracheal inhalation of nitrogen trifluoride (NF3) gas to determine its toxic effects upon the cardiovascular system. These rats had a definite decrease in diastolic pressure, systolic pressure, and heart rate. Similarly, rats that prebreathed oxygen for 5 minutes before exposure had the same changes in the cardiovascular system as those breathing only NF3. However, animals which inhaled oxygen for 5 minutes immediately after exposure to NF3 showed a temporary increase in diastolic pressure, systolic pressure, and heart rate. (Author)
