Abstract : It has been shown experimentally that certain features of the ionospheric echo structure of 2.2 MHz pulses are correlated with the on-off time of a high power pulse transmitter operated at 4.5 MHz. Photographic and electronic data are presented which show examples in which the h'(f) of the main echoes changed by a few kilometers with a characteristic time in the order of 10 to 60 seconds during the high power transmissions. A number of photographic records are also presented which show the abrupt appearance of sporadic E echoes during the high power intervals. A theoretical investigation into the possible cause for these experimental results is given. (Author)
