Abstract : The report describes the preparation of molybdenum, tungsten and chromium by high-temperature decomposition of their carbonyls. To reduce the carbon content in the metal to be obtained, the decomposition of the carbonyls of these elements is performed in an atmosphere of carbon dioxide or of another inert gas containing oxygen or oxygen-containing gases (such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, water) at 300-1400 degrees centigrade. For complete removal of carbon dioxide, the metallic molybdenum, tungsten, or chromium is treated with additions of oxygen, water vapor, and other oxygen-containing gases. (Author)
