Abstract : The purpose of the article was to investigate optimum lubricants for such parts as steering mechanisms, transmissions and other parts which are generally poorly protected from dirt and water, the operating temperature of which generally does not exceed the ambient temperature by more than 2 percent centigrade. In the experiments the dependence of the duration of tests on the type and amount of lubricant, the temperature of the surrounding medium, the material and the state of the friction surfaces, specific loading, the rate of slippage, and the rate of rotation, were studied.
