Abstract : Work is reported on five separate but related research activities on solidification and thermomechanical processing of aluminum ingots. Several of these are completed research activities; others are in progress. They deal with (1) solution treatment of cast Al-4.5% Cu alloy, (2) effect of solution treatment of mechanical properties and fracture behavior of Al-4.5% Cu alloy, (3) effect of thermo-mechanical processing on solution treatment of wrought Al-4.5% Cu alloy, (4) heat flow in unidirectional solidification, and (5) laboratory simulation of the 'negative cone of segregation'.
