Abstract : The '12000 x g supernatant fraction' from extracts of cells of a yeast, a species of Torulopsis, converts oleic acid to 17-L-hydroxyoleic acid. The hydroxylating system is apparently a mixed-function oxidase since it requires O2 and NADPH. Enzymatic activity is maximal close to pH 7.1, and can be sedimented at 48000 x g. It is strongly inhibited by CO but not by CN(-) or N3(-).
