Abstract : The modulation transfer function of a photographic film with antihalation treatment can be calculated as a frequency spectrum if the Frieser constant is known. It is suggested that the latter be determined by the maximum gradient of the function of the distribution of illumination across a knife-edge. It is shown that in order to obtain unambiguous parameters this function must be normalized. This approach has been tested experimentally. (Author)
