Abstract : On general field theoretic grounds it is argued that the bare mass of the proton (baryon-octet) vanishes without implying vanishing physical masses. This suggests that SU(3) x SU(3) and dilatation invariance are realized through the Goldstone-Nambu mechanism in the symmetry limit. (Author)
