Abstract : The very large effective height of the OMEGA Transmitting antenna makes it a very effective receiving antenna for system monitoring, with the advantage that using the transmitting antenna for receiving removes all errors due to re-radiation and distance between transmitter and monitor. However, to receive distant signals while transmitting requires over 200 DB discrimination against the local signal. This high level of discrimination can be provided by the combination of a balanced hybrid transformer, notch filters, adjacent channel rejection and high level signal processing. Phase shift errors in the remote signals due to antenna detuning and receiver phase shift is avoided by tracking the signals by injecting a local tracking signal into the antenna circuit to cancel distant signals. Simultaneous tracking of the signals of all eight stations on four or more frequencies can be accomplished. (Author)
