Abstract : A technique was developed for studying effect of ultrasonic vibration on coefficient of friction between the rigid steel die and plastically deformed metal during strip drawing operation. It was observed that the stresses are substantially reduced when ultrasonic energy is introduced during the strip drawing process. Reduction in the coefficient of friction was also obtained with an application of ultrasound. The reduction in drawing stress is explained by superposition of the oscillatory stresses on the drawing stress. (Author)
