Abstract : The electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of the ground state of trivalent ytterbium have been observed in eight laser host single crystals with scheelite structure of 4.2K and X-band frequencies. The crystals used were CdMoO4, CaWO4 CaMoO4, SrMO4, SrMoO4, PbWO4, PbMoO4, and BaWO4. The tetragonal spectra for Yb171, Yb173, and the evenisotopes of ytterbium were best-fit to an axial spin-Hamiltonian. The g-factors were found to have a linear dependencc on the crystal c-axis lattice constant. All ground-state wave functions were found to be Gamma(5,6). (Author)
