Abstract : Using a method developed by French authors, it was possible to determine indices characterizing the immunogenic activity of anti-hoof and mouth disease aluminum hydroxide formol vaccine from lapinized hoof and mouth disease virus A22 in guinea pigs. The intramuscular injection of vaccine in guinea pigs induces an immunity against experimental infection with pathogenic strains of the hoof and mouth disease virus. The degree of immunity is dependent upon the dose and the immunogenic activity of the vaccine. The immunogenic activity of the vaccine was determined by establishing the 50% vaccine dose for guinea pigs which were injected with various doses of the vaccine and which were later infected by an identical dose of the virus; then the nature of the disease with generalization of the hoof and mouth disease process was determined.
