Abstract : The behavior of isotropic shells subjected to concentrated loads has been studied for many years and is very well documented in the literature. In the last few years, however, the fabrication and use of composite and fiber reinforced plates and shells as primary structural elements has necessitated the development of methods of stress analysis for highly anisotropic materials including the effects of transverse shear deformation. As a step in that direction, the present work will consider the effects of localized loads on highly orthotropic shallow spherical shells. (Author)
