Abstract : During the past year, there has been a growing appreciation of the potential importance of surface wave acoustic devices for signal processing. Surface waves can be guided within limits; signals can be tapped off anywhere along the acoustic path for parallel processing; integrated circuits can be grown or deposited upon the acoustic substrate; transducers can be fashioned to provide various functions such as Barker code sensing or generation, pulse compression, etc., and a very good surface wave sonic amplifier has recently been developed. This report concerns an introduction to the analysis of surface waves with a bias related to some potential applications. (Author)
