Abstract : Under certain circumstances, piezoelectric surface waves that are uniform in a direction perpendicular to the sagittal plane can be decoupled to form independent Rayleigh and transverse modes. It is shown that this decoupling occurs when the sagittal plane is parallel to a plane of symmetry or perpendicular to a 2-fold axis of symmetry. In the former case, all the field and displacement components are coplanar for a particular mode. In the latter case, the field and displacement components for a particular mode are all mutually perpendicular. (Author)
