Abstract : The techniques of LEED and electron energy loss measurements are used to study the (100) surfaces of LiF and NaF. The surface charging voltage is related, the first cross-over voltage for unity secondary yield, and is found to be temperature dependent. The energy loss spectrum is shown to be characteristic of the surface studied. The limitation of the retarding field method is discussed. (Author)
