Abstract : The report describes a concept for the measurement of gamma-ray spectra using fixed-energy variable-angle Compton electrons. The choice of a single electron energy eliminates variations in detector response and it can also eliminate the need for variations in detector geometry. Although the dispersion of the proposed spectrograph is very poor at higher gamma-ray energies, this is considered to be an advantage for the low intensities of high-energy gamma-rays produced by flash x-ray machines or pulsed reactors.
