Abstract : With the aid of a simple physical model the maximum heat flow in a heat pipe is computed at variable values of gravity. The results are shown by the example of a heat pipe at 900K filled with sodium. Furthermore, the effects of gravity on heat transfer during boiling and condensation in a heat pipe are discussed.
