Abstract : The dominant role of accidents as a major source of morbidity is demonstrated and discussed. An examination is made of occupational and road injuries. It is suggested that differences in quantitative and qualitative exposure constitute only a partial explanation of differential injury involvement, and the presence of some other systematic causal factor is postulated. The implications of this concept are discussed, and the work ends with a description of some problems in which research seems desirable. (Author)
