Abstract : The report discusses the development of hot-isostatic-compaction forming of BN which was initated in a prior study. Primary emphasis in the current program was on maximizing BN purity and therby minimizing its electrical loss. The experimental work also included limited study of the variation of BN properties with HIC process parameters. The uniqueness of the HIC process for forming BN is its relative freedom from shape limitations, its ability to yield a combination of high density, strength, and thermal conductivity combined with excellent electrical properties and only modest anisotropy.
