Abstract : The use of attenuated total reflectance spectroscopy in the study of solid propellants for the purposes of quality control and the elucidation of solid phase reactions is presented. In a separate study, the detection of CO2 using rapid-scanning optical spectroscopy during the pre-ignition phase of a solid propellant firing is reported and its value as a criterion for ignition discussed.
