Abstract : A theory is developed and presented for multi-pass attenuation measurements using holographic recording/reconstruction techniques. The intensities of the first-order reconstructed beams are shown to vary directly with the intensity of the desired multi-pass test beam component under proper conditions. An improved holographic reconstruction of an attenuating transparent medium is proposed which incorporates the use of a low resolution positive print of the negative hologram to achieve desirable film fog cancellation. A theory has been formulated for this improved, proposed holographic reconstruction technique where enhanced image results are predicted. (Author)
