Abstract : The Mossbauer effect following Coulomb excitation by 3.3-MeV alpha particles has been observed in Dy-161 and Eu-151. Both the 43.8-keV state in Dy-161 and the 21.7-keV state in Eu-151 are promising candidates for studying the radiation damage produced by the charged-particle bombardment. No time dependence has been tected of the iron 1+ to 4+ charge states, resulting from the K-capture decay of Co-57 in sources of Cu2O, MgO and Al2O3. It was shown that CoO samples, produced by drying cobalt nitrate solutions at low temperatures, are made up of microcrystals. The Mossbauer isomer shift of Au197 has been measured in samples of gold microcrystals supported in gelatin, and can be correlated with the lattice contractions observed in these microcrystals. Both in bulk and microcrystal hematite no evidence has been found for a gradual Morin spin-flip transition. (Author)
