Abstract : An idea of recirculation flow is explained and some examples of flows in nature and technique are shown. Traced out further is a physical problem connected with a study of the flows with a special view of two-dimensional case. According to G. K. Batchelor a region of two-dimensional recirculation flow at large Reynolds number may divide into a core and a recirculation boundary layer. The flows in these subregions are investigated separately. As a result of these investigations a method of two-dimensional solution of steady laminar recirculation flow at large Reynolds number is indicated. Some ideas of boundary layer theory had to be generalized in order to analyze the boundary layers at recirculation flow. Two known methods of solution of the boundary layer equation were modified so that boundary layers with nonzero condition for velocity on boundary (wall) might be solved. Simplified solution of a case of recirculation was done and a similar case of flow was realized. The results of measurements: qualitatively proved correctness of the important assumption that the recirculation boundary layer was thin and gave experiences for investigating other recirculation flows.
