Abstract : The document is concerned with asynchrony as a method of sequencing information to improve learning efficiency. It refers to the pattern of changes in critical and non-critical stimuli in moving from one presentation to the next. Two programs in microeconomics were developed--one which maximized asynchronous sequencing and one which minimized it. The specific method of sequencing is explained. The programs were tested on 28 college girls using a computer-assisted instructional system which presented information, processed students' constructed responses, recorded correctness and response time, provided feedback and branched the student to new material.
