Abstract : A brief review is given of the methods commonly used in psychoendocrinological research, including neuroendocrine and twin studies, experiments with animals, psychological and sociological studies of patient groups, and laboratory experiments on man. A number of recent psychoendocrine studies focused on the sympatho-adrenomedullary system are cited. They demonstrate some of the controversy concerning the relationship between the urinary and plasma catecholamines, on one hand, and spontaneously occurring or experimentally induced emotional states, on the other hand.
