Abstract : The preparation of superconducting V3Si films by sputter-deposition from V and Si targets is described. The dependence of critical current and magnetic field on deposition parameters is discussed. The operation of a novel rf sputtering system in which line dipole targets are excited in argon is described. Progress on deposition of V3Si by electron bombardment evaporation of V and Si from line sources in self-crucible configuration is described. Measurements of the ac resistance of a number of Nb thin film superconductors are described. A study of the distribution of current in a thin superconducting film as a function of total current applied and of external magnetic field is described. The experimental technique uses the optical Faraday effect to measure the magnetic field distribution outside the film and from this knowledge to determine the current distribution in the film.
