Abstract : The reported research is concerned with the effects of success and failure upon problem solving. Although a considerable number of studies dealing with the effects of stress, anxiety, fear and failure upon learning, retention and perception have appeared, little has been done to determine in what ways these variables influence the problem-solving process. A study was undertaken in order to fill this gap in the understanding of problem solving--an aspect of human behavior in which psychologists are exhibiting increasing interest. (Author)
